Victoria's brother, Merrit Grow, was a bachelor. He lived in Padua, Illinois, outside of Bloomington (Postoffice Hilder, Ill) According to some family records, he lived mostly on cornmeal; never spent a nickel; he farmed 40 acres. Stuffed his money in tin cans and stuck them in the walls, or hid the cans in barrels, in the barn, etc. After he died, kids nearly tore his old house to pieces hunting the money: He plowed with old horses, never trimming their hoofs. In his later years he lived in a little shed outside of Ed Brown's house, and Ed became his administrator.
