After Daniel's death Sarah ran a grocery store in Bloomington, and did practical nursing; also took in roomers to support her family." (At one place Florence told me that Daniel was working for the railroad on a job in Mexico. Can't verify)

Notes for Daniel B. (Spouse 1)
Their marriagae took place on 25 Oct 1873 at the home of the bride's parents, corner Lee and Empire Street, Bloomington, Ill. Daniel B Lyons died in Mexico of yellow fever. Because of this epidemic, the authorities would not allow his body to be brought back to the States, nor any of his possessions. His widow was left with six children to raise. The Insurance company at first refused to pay any insurance to her, as Daniel was in Mexico without permission (of whom?) However, Sarah's father, William John Henry Hill prevailed upon them to pay her, and $500 is all she received from the insurance company. Her father helped her financially in the raising of her family, even though he disapproved of her conversion to Catholicism. ( I understand he was a strong Mason)" "Daniel was an expert machinist and followed the new frontier, as there was good money in this work, with the rainroads. His wife moved along with him, even though she thought that the 'frontier is no place for a lady'." (At one place Florence told me that Daniel was working for the railroad on a job in Mexico.
