Joseph P. Burke was born in Cincinnati on Feb. 22 1878. Came to Dunlap in 1882. Joined the tailoring business with his father, Patrick Joseph and brother, Harry. 120

Joe Burke died March 5, 1946. This obit ran in the Dunlap Iowa, Harrison County paper, Volume 76. About March 8, 1946. Joseph P. Burke, son of Mr. And Mrs. P.J. Burke, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Feb. 22, 1878. He came to Dunlap with his parents, a brother and sisters in 1882. He received his education in the Dunlap schools. After completing his schooling he became associated with his father and brother in the tailoring business. On Sept. 14, 1904 he was united in marriage with Katherine Dugan. To this union four children were born. Later Mr. Burke was employed in a general merchandise store first owned by Barrett and Songs, later by Ledden and Ledden. In 1935 he was appointed postmaster and served in this capacity until his death. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years and for a period of years served as financial secretary for this organization. He passed away Tuesday morning, March 5, at 5:30 in his sleep. He is survived by his wife, Katherine, three daughters, Mary of Dunlap, Helen of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Mrs. Robert Teske of Plainville, Ill., and one son, Joseph P. Burke Jr. and three grandchildren of Dunlap. Also one brother Harry W. of Randolf Nebr., and five sisters, Mrs. P.G.Ingersoll and Miss Frances Burke of Dunlap; Mrs. D.J.Farrell and Miss Margaret Burke of Omaha, and Mrs. Peter Devaney of Detroit, Michigan, and other relatives and a host of friends survive him. Services were conducted from St. Patrick's Church at 9:30 Thursday morning, March 7, 1946. High Mass was said by Father E. Leo Ford. Interment was made at Pleasant Hill Cemetary, Dunlap. 120
