My mom (Clare) and Marian were close in Omaha and
lived about six or so miles apart here in the DC suburbs.

What my mom told me was that sometime in
the early 50s, one of Marian's kids got married in a heathen church.
My mom talked to her parish priest and he told her she would go to hell
if she took part in a service at a heathen church. So she didn't go to
the service.

I expect it was probably Episcopalian or Methodist
or some other mainstream Protestant church, but in the 50s, you
were Catholic or pagan. I take it that Marian was crushed that her
sister won't drive 10 miles to the wedding, and so the families never
communicated.

When one of the out of town sisters would come in, they would spend a while
with one and then pack up, leave and go visit the other. Most strange.
I clearly remember Aunt Florence taking me to visit Aunt Marian, and I had
no idea, zero, of who she was.
